Success story · Dual-market staffing

Two talent markets, one team, one platform build

How DevEngine staffed an established North American workforce-scheduling platform with two consultant teams at once — full-stack engineers to finish the product, and SAP consultants to build its SuccessFactors integration.

The summary

The client's product — a workforce-scheduling platform that leans heavily on automation and AI — was approaching the finish line. Two things stood between it and done: a batch of final features on the product itself, and a new SAP SuccessFactors integration that had to be built from scratch.

Those are two different jobs needing two different kinds of engineer, from two different talent pools. DevEngine ran both searches at once under a single engagement — so the client managed one relationship instead of two vendor searches, and neither workstream waited on the other.

The situation

Two different jobs, two different talent pools

Finishing the product called for full-stack developers in Ruby on Rails, Node.js, TypeScript, React, Next.js and Tailwind, with AWS and Jest. The SuccessFactors integration called for SAP engineers who could build on BTP and knew the module inside out.

Those people don't come from the same place — a search tuned for one underperforms on the other, and the usual result is one workstream waiting on the other. Two conditions were non-negotiable: an Eastern-time schedule, and seniority enough to drop into a near-finished codebase and a live enterprise system and be productive fast.

What DevEngine did

Two searches, run as one engagement

Two searches, one engagement

We treated full-stack and SAP as the separate markets they are — each with its own sourcing, screening and shortlist — but ran both at the same time. The client managed one relationship, not two vendor searches.

Scoped as a team from day one

We planned around a target of 8 to 12 people sized to cover the whole technical spectrum — reasoning about the mix as a whole rather than reacting to gaps one hire at a time.

Senior enough to own the work

We searched across Latin America for engineers who cleared the bar and then some: fluent English, an Eastern-time schedule, and the seniority to make calls without hand-holding on a mature product and a live integration.

How the team was built

Eleven people across two talent markets, one team

8

Product side

  • Full-stack engineers
  • Backend engineers
  • Product manager

Finished the near-complete product — final features and tweaks across the Rails / Node / React stack.

3

SAP consultants

  • SAP architect
  • Integration engineers

Built the SuccessFactors integration from scratch on SAP BTP.

One partner, two markets — the client ran a single engagement while we ran two very different searches underneath it, so neither stack lagged the other.

The results

A full team in 28 days, both workstreams moving

11

The full team built

Eleven people across two talent markets within 28 days of kickoff, against a plan of 8 to 12 — eight on the product side, three SAP consultants.

18→11

A shortlist that landed

18 candidates presented, 11 hired — from roughly 35–40 profiles screened. Little wasted motion on the client's side of the interview loop.

Delivered

Scope met, then expanded

The team delivered the agreed scope; the launch date moved out only as the client expanded the build — added scope, not work left undone.

~35%

Cost

Around 35% below the cost of an equivalent North American team, at senior levels across both stacks.

Why it worked

One partner absorbed the complexity

One partner, two markets

The client ran a single engagement while we ran two very different searches underneath it — no reconciling vendors, no gap where one stack lagged the other.

An Eastern-time schedule as a requirement

We screened for an Eastern-time schedule up front, so the team collaborated with the client in real time every day rather than handing work back and forth across a time gap.

Seniority that carried weight

The engineers could make architecture and integration calls on their own, not just implement to spec — what finishing a mature product and building a live integration both demand.
