Data Analyst (Canada, Remote)

Remote - Canada

|

Permanent / Full Time

Our client is a well-established financial services firm based in Toronto. They operate in a data-intensive environment where accurate, timely reporting underpins critical business decisions across investment and wealth management functions. As the organization continues to grow and modernize its analytics capabilities, they're looking to add a strong Data Analyst to their team.

In this role, you'll sit at the intersection of data and decision-making. You'll partner closely with business stakeholders, BI/reporting teams, and technology partners to turn ambiguous business questions into reliable metrics, clean datasets, and actionable insights. This is a hands-on analytical role — you'll spend meaningful time in SQL, Power BI, and Excel, while also producing the documentation and definitions that make your outputs repeatable and auditable.

You're a strong fit if you have 5+ years in an analytics role within financial services, you're comfortable working independently in a remote environment, and you take ownership of data quality from source to report.
This is a permanent, full-time, fully remote role. Only candidates currently residing in Canada will be considered.

Responsibilities
  • Work with stakeholders to understand business questions and translate them into analysis plans, KPIs, and reporting requirements.
  • Analyze data using SQL and advanced Excel; validate and reconcile data across sources to ensure accuracy and consistency.
  • Build and maintain dashboards and recurring reports in Power BI, in partnership with BI/reporting teams.
  • Define metric logic and documentation — data definitions, calculation rules, and assumptions — so outputs are repeatable and auditable.
  • Identify trends, anomalies, and drivers through exploratory analysis; support operational reporting, forecasting inputs, and performance monitoring.
  • Help troubleshoot reporting discrepancies and data quality issues, including proactive monitoring where applicable.
  • Produce core artifacts: metric definitions, data dictionaries, reporting specs, and basic data flows.
  • Partner with technology teams on data extraction, transformations, and changes that impact downstream reporting.
  • Support UAT and stakeholder reviews by validating results and explaining outcomes clearly.
  • Contribute to data governance, compliance, and operational standards when handling sensitive information.
Mandatory Requirements
  • 5+ years of experience in a Data Analyst or Analytics role, ideally within investment, wealth management, or financial services.
  • Strong SQL skills, including complex querying, performance considerations, working across multiple datasets, and familiarity with data transformations that affect downstream reporting.
  • Power BI proficiency at a power-user level — you build dashboards and reports, define measures, and work closely with BI/reporting teams; full BI engineering depth is not required.
  • Strong analytical skills: ability to interpret complex datasets, spot issues, and explain findings clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Practical experience shaping and preparing data for reporting and analysis — joins, transformations, reconciliations, and KPI logic.
  • Demonstrated experience defining and documenting metrics, calculations, and reporting requirements so outputs are repeatable and auditable.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with strong written documentation.
  • Comfortable working independently, managing priorities, and collaborating with cross-functional teams in a remote environment.
  • Experience working in regulated environments and handling sensitive or confidential data appropriately.
Nice-to-Have
  • Experience with Python for data automation, validation scripts, or transformation workflows.
  • Familiarity with dbt or similar data transformation tooling.
  • Exposure to dimensional modeling concepts (star schemas, fact/dimension tables) — useful for collaborating with data engineering teams.
  • Experience with Azure data services such as Synapse Analytics or Azure Databricks.
  • Familiarity with other Microsoft data stack tools (Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Lake).
  • Experience with data quality monitoring frameworks or automated validation workflows.
Salary Range
CA$100,000 to CA$110,000 annually, 7-10% performance bonus, with final compensation determined by your qualifications, expertise, experience, and the role's scope.
