Epic Architect, Part-Time (Canada, Remote)

Remote - US

|

Contract

Our client is a US-based healthcare technology company building a new enterprise platform focused on upstream workflow and revenue cycle challenges for health systems. The product is in stealth, with a working prototype and active conversations underway with prospective customers and investors.

You'll be the Epic voice in the room. The founding team needs a seasoned Epic Architect to review the prototype, flag the integration realities a non-Epic team won't see coming, and help prioritize the next phase of build. This is a pure advisory engagement — no code, no build work.

This is a short-term initial advisory engagement with potential for future fractional engagements as the product matures. The role is part-time and fully remote, and the candidate can be based anywhere in Canada. Cadence is variable, and you'll need to overlap with Eastern Time business hours for working sessions.

Responsibilities
  • Review the current prototype and provide a structured technical assessment from an Epic-informed perspective.
  • Identify which workstreams should be prioritized first based on Epic-side complexity and risk.
  • Advise on bidirectional Epic integration patterns, including FHIR and HL7 considerations.
  • Surface practical Epic realities the team should plan for — access, data exchange, governance, common pitfalls.
  • Provide ad hoc input during investor, LOI, and early customer conversations where Epic context is needed.
Mandatory Requirements
  • Active or past Epic certification (active preferred; lapsed certification with strong recent hands-on experience is acceptable).
  • Significant experience inside a health system Epic environment as an architect, integration lead, or comparable senior role.
  • Hands-on experience with bidirectional Epic integration, including reading from and writing to the patient record.
  • Strong working knowledge of FHIR and HL7.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate Epic complexity for a non-Epic audience.
  • Comfort working in a fractional, advisory capacity with a small founding team.
Nice-to-Have
  • Exposure to other major EMRs such as Cerner and eClinicalWorks.
  • Background in revenue cycle management or upstream clinical/operational workflows.
  • Experience advising early-stage health tech companies.
Of Note
  • Completed background checks will be required before the start date if you are selected as a winning candidate.
